Eat Your Heart Out

Gene Simmons

a Simmons solo credit with "Eat Your Heart Out." It is likely that this song was originally titled "Are You Ready?" Recycled for what, if at all, is the question, since Gene has described the song as "an old song that was torn apart and re-written" (Billboard). He has also suggested that the song originated in the 1970s, but was substantially revised for the "Monster" album. For the album the band used an a cappella intro that leveraged the band's vocal harmony along with plenty of cowbell. This nod to the past was inspired by the 1950s. According to Paul, "I wanted to be in Dion and the Belmonts. You go back to doo-wop and that worked its way into the Everly Brothers, and the Everly Brothers gave us the Beatles. Those triad harmonies are elementary, and also pretty classic" (Rolling Stones).
