When Lightning Strikes

Tommy Thayer, Paul Stanley

One of the early songs completed in March, Tommy Thayer's studio lead vocal debut on a song with some inspiration from AC/DC's "Problem Child?" Tommy had the original idea for this song which he then brought to Paul for a bit of work making sure it fit with Kiss' style. Both Gene and Paul had wanted Tommy to sing on the album and he knocked the vocal takes out in around twenty minutes. Thematically, the song fit right into the lightning bolt/spacey character that Tommy inhabited playing the role of "Spaceman." According to Tommy, "It's a great tune, there is something that people missed, and that's I am a good singer, I am a good vocalist. I have much experience, but I've never been a solo singer. My voice works well on that and I think people will be surprised" (Guitarra Total).
