Notes:

Produced, engineered, and mixed by Eddie Kramer, assisted by Neal Teeman. Recorded live during the "Dressed to Kill" tour. Overdubbed and mixed at Electric Lady Studios, New York City, NY, in late July / early August 1975. The concerts recorded for use on the album included: Cobo Arena, Detroit, MI on May 16; Music Hall, Cleveland, OH, on June 21; two shows at the Orpheum Theatre in Davenport, IA, on July 20; and the Convention Center in Wildwood, NJ, on July 23 (Gooch, Suhs - KISS Alive Forever). The "Back to Black" 180g vinyl issue was part of Universal's 60th anniversary of the vinyl format, though there were criticisms that the source for many albums in the series may have been digital rather than the original analogue. Some South American releases came in two separate albums. French EMI/Pathe Marconi issue replaces discography on gatefold with live pictures from booklet (this was that country's first KISS release).

Chart Action:

Chart Peak (USA): #9 (12/20/75) with 110 weeks on charts. Other countries: CAN #3; SWE #22; UK #49.

RIAA/Sales:

USA: "Alive!" was Kiss' first RIAA certification, attaining Gold on 12/4/75. The album has never been officially recertified (album purported to be 4X Platinum, but uncertified at that level) and even as late as November 1977 was still being reported on the Billboard album charts as only "gold" certified. It has sold over 274,000 (3/12) copies since the SoundScan era commenced in 1991. From the "hype" department: An Aucoin Management ad in Billboard (1/22/77) proclaimed "over 2 million copies sold." The album was certified gold by the CRIA (Canada) for sales of 50,000 copies on 2/1/76, the band's first Canadian certification. The album was certified gold by the ARIA (Australia) for sales in excess of AU$150,000 in June 1976.
